NEW CARD OFFERS GREAT PROMOTIONS AND DISCOUNTS
El Corte Inglés’ quarterly magazine What’s Hot for English-speaking residents on the Coast has been a great success since its launch four years ago and, following this response, the Coast’s favourite shopping centre has introduced a What’s Hot loyalty card to further enhance the shopping experience. Tailor-made for residents in Spain, the card offers special discounts on brands, in-house promotions including beauty product give-aways, spa treatments, car washes and golf packages, and discounts on food and drink – to name just a few. To apply for a card, shoppers need to fill in a form at the customer service desk on the second floor of El Corte Inglés Puerto Banús to receive it immediately; or apply online (whatshot.es) and collect the card in the wedding department on the next visit. Exclusive offers are sent to cardholders each month – enabling them to enjoy better shopping and leisure.

SOROPTIMIST 
INTERNATIONAL MEETING AND
FRIENDSHIP ON THE COAST
Organised around the theme “The Power of Optimism”, the eighth European Meeting and Friendship Days of the Soroptimist International Organisation will be held in Mijas from 15 to 17 October at the Hotel Mijas. The theme will be reflected in the presentations by leading speakers in politics, neuroscience and sociology. It was chosen, according to the organisers, “in order to infuse the participants with good vibrations and renewed energy (as) there is already too much focus on the negative in the world, which can hinder the motivation to try and make the world a better place.” Simultaneous interpretation will be offered in three languages. Around 200 women from all over Europe, together with visitors from Africa, are expected to attend the event. It is being organised by Spanish Soroptimist clubs from the Costa del Sol, Madrid, Marina Baixa, Sitges and Valle D’Aran.
Local authorities from Mijas will inaugurate the conference, which includes a reception at the town hall and specially arranged visits to the town and surrounding area. The president of the European Federation of Soroptimists, Eliane Lagasse, from the Geneva-based headquarters, will be present as well as international president Hanne Jensbo. Together they represent over 90,000 Soroptimist members worldwide. Spain was chosen as the venue for this event in order to promote the Soroptimist organisation in this country and to encourage more women to join and more clubs to be created.

Thai Elephant opened to great success in its first month – the Thai and Japanese restaurant has a varied menu offering something for every taste and palette. CHARITY GOLF DAY AT LA QUINTA
England’s football manager, Fabio Capello, and good friend Manuel Piñero hosted a special charity golf event at La Quinta Golf and Country Club this summer to raise funds for the Seve Ballesteros Cancer Foundation. Involving teams from Spain and overseas, the tournament was followed by a gala dinner attended by numerous celebrity guests, where Capello and Piñero – the European Tour and Word Cup champion who is director of the La Quinta Golf Academy – thanked supporters of the worthy cause for their generosity. Nearly €10,000 was raised through the event and charity auction.
